It's up to all of us to keep the Boise River clean. Here are some
simple, everyday tips for keeping the storm drains clean and the Boise River
healthy:
- Check out
River Care Tips for a
variety of ways to keep our water clean.
- Pick up after your pet and properly dispose of the waste in the toilet
or trash. Remember: “Just Doo It.”
-
Limit your pesticide and fertilizer use and apply only the amount
recommended by the manufacturer for your turf and plant types.
- Check your vehicles for fuel and oil leaks and repair as needed.
- Wash your car on the lawn or go to a car wash. Dirt, oil, and grease
end up in the storm drain and then the river. Use biodegradable soaps
sparingly. Car washes dispose of the soapy water into the sanitary sewer.
- Don’t trash our town! Litter accounts for the majority of debris that
ends up in the storm drain. Keep a litter bag in your car and if you
smoke, use the ashtray. Check if any litter can be recycled!
- Wash latex paint brushes in the sink or toilet, not in the storm
drain.
-
Mark the storm drains in your neighborhood. Organize a group and call
388-4703 for information.
- Compost yard waste, leave lawn clippings on the lawn,
check your sprinklers for proper coverage, and use drought tolerant
plants.
- Reduce, Reuse, Recycle! For more information, go to the
Residential Recycling program web page.
- Use the Household Hazardous Waste Collections Sites to dispose of used
fluorescent light bulbs, motor oil, batteries, and more! For locations, go
to the
Household Hazardous Waste collection site web page.
